How do you see yourself today?
Are you more aware of your faults, failures, and weaknesses than you are your strong areas?
Do you see yourself as being someone worthy of love, worthy of good things, full of value?
These can be hard questions for some of us. Some of us have been so deeply hurt, lied to in the worst ways, and painfully rejected. The result of anyone of those can completely destroy our confidence, leave us feeling less than, and cause us to stop believing in our own self-worth.
And unfortunately, that type of mindset, if left to run rampant, will hinder progress in every area of our lives, and cause us to live small lives, far less than what our Creator ever planned for us.
But the good news is, there is hope.
Because no matter how you see yourself today, no matter where you find yourself today, and no matter what lies you have been told about yourself, your view of yourself can change.
All it takes is for you to come to know, understand, believe, and choose to live according to one simple truth despite how you feel or what you’ve experienced.
That one simple truth is this, He chose you.
People Can Not Give You Value, Your Value Comes from The Lord
Contrary to popular belief, people, not family, not friends, not strangers, not even yourself, have the ability to give you value. Your value comes from God Himself, and no one has the power or authority to discount what the Lord establishes.
His truth overrides and is greater than every lie and every wrong belief. His truth is also not subject to popular opinions, nor is it subject to our feelings.
Let me show you what I mean:
· You may believe you aren’t beautiful; maybe you look in the mirror and you don’t like what you see; or maybe someone has conveyed this message to you. < But God said, He created you in His image (Genesis 1:27), saw all that He had made, and determined it was very good (Genesis 1:31).
It doesn’t matter if you’re thin, heavy set, tall, short, black, white, have straight hair, or kinky hair. God said He made you in His image, and there is not one more glorious than Him. He also said He looked upon what He saw, and it was very good.
You might desire a different hairstyle, you might want to lose weight, you might choose to get braces to straighten your teeth. There is nothing wrong with changes based on our personal preferences, especially where your health is concerned. The problem arises when you don’t like who you are, based off of how you look. When you can’t see the beauty in who God Almighty created you to be, you are seeking your worth and value from the wrong source.
People May Reject You, But God Already Chose You
People may decide that you’re undeserving of their time, their love, and their attention. They may choose to ignore you or break out of relationship with you.
And that’s painful.
But what you need to know and remember during these times, is that you’ve already been chosen. God chose you, and He chose you long before today.
Blessed and worthy of praise be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms in Christ, just as [in His love] He chose us in Christ [actually selected us for Himself as His own] before the foundation of the world, so that we would be holy [that is, consecrated, set apart for Him, purpose-driven] and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined and lovingly planned for us to be adopted to Himself as [His own] children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the kind intention and good pleasure of His will. (Ephesians 1:3-5amp).
According to Ephesians, God chose you before the foundation of the world. And he lovingly planned for you to be adopted to Himself.
When it feels as if no one else wants you, regardless of their reasons. Remember God wants you. He has always wanted you. You have someone you belong to, you belong to the Lord.
Therefore, you are never without love, you are never without value, you are never without acceptance, you are never without friendship, and you are never without a place of belonging.
It stings when people reject us and fail to see our value, but most people are struggling with their own self-worth issues and are not in position to ever determine ours.
Stop seeking what you need, what you long to feel and hear, from the wrong sources. Turn your attention to your Creator, to the one who sacrificed everything, just for a relationship with you.
But God clearly shows and proves His own love for us, by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8amp).
Nothing has cleansed my mind from lies and negative thinking about my worth and value, more than the truth of God’s Word, and nothing has taught me that He chose me, more than the truth of God’s Word. Take some time to read, meditate on, study, memorize, and pray these following scriptures over your life, until they renew your mind and fill your heart and mind with truth. Peace be with you, today and always.
· For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11esv).
· For You formed my innermost parts; You knit me [together] in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well (Psalm 139:13-14amp).
· See what an incredible quality of love the Father has shown to us, that we would [be permitted to] be named and called and counted the children of God! And so we are! For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. (1 John 3:1amp).
· For thus says the Lord of hosts, “After glory He has sent Me against the nations which plunder you---for he who touches you, touches the apple of His eye." (Zechariah 2:8amp).
· I do not call you servants any longer, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you [My] friends, because I have revealed to you everything that I have heard from My Father. You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and I have appointed and placed and purposefully planted you, so that you would go and bear fruit and keep on bearing, and that your fruit will remain and be lasting, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name [as My representative] He may give to you. (John 15:15-16).
